Thanks to Susan Virden and her committee for taking on the responsibility to manage the 2012 Celebration weekend. The committee includes Barbara Gaffield, Mary Kenney, Kaye Pelley and Deborah Wright.

Celebration...every two years, the years ending with even numbers (2008, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016), our state-wide quilting organization, Virginia Consortium of Quilters (VCQ), has a grand weekend of quilting, eating, and just plain fun! Workshops are available with teachers from across the country. Or, you can choose to sew on your own in the 'Come Quilt with Me' room. The workshops are wonderful, the food is wonderful, and the friendships you make and re-establish each time, are priceless.

Celebration 2012 Quilt Challenge

Celebration 2012 Quilt Challenge joins with the Alzheimer’s Art Quilt Initiative to fight Alzheimer’s.
The Alzheimer’s Art Quilt Initiative (AAQI) is a national grassroots charity dedicated to raising awareness and funding research through art. Priority: Alzheimer’s Quilts are small (9”x12”) quilts donated by AAQI supporters. Quilts are auctioned during the first 10 days of every month and sold online. AAQI is run entirely by volunteers. All profits fund Alzheimer’s research.

All quilts entered in the Quilt Challenge will be displayed during Celebration 2012 and will be eligible for the Celebration Challenge Viewer’s Choice Prize.

To participate in the Celebration Challenge all rules for the AAQI must be followed.

  • No larger than 9" x 12". No exceptions. Anything that hangs off the quilt must not extend beyond 9" x 12" maximum size.
  • May be Alzheimer’s themed, but not required.
  • Embellishments should withstand handling.
  • Written permission must be secured for copyrighted patterns, etc.
  • Completed registration form. Click here for online registration form for the Alzheimer’s Art Quilt Initiative.
  • Visit www.AlzQuilts.org for detailed rules.
At the close of Celebration 2012 the quilts will be sent to the AAQI for sale. If you prefer, you may retain your quilt.
