Celebration 2016

A message from Susan Price, VCQ President

Dear VCQ members and friends,

Many of you attended our recent Celebration retreat at Smith Mountain Lake, or have attended one in the past. I am sure many of you are also looking forward to Celebration 2016. This is an event that people look forward to every two years, and teachers love to come teach for us because they are made to feel so special. In fact, one teacher this year told us it was the best conference she had ever been to! Unfortunately, unless someone steps up to chair (or co-chair) the committee for this event, we are in danger of having to cancel for the first time in 30 years. I talked to many people at Celebration about volunteering; all had valid reasons for declining. Some said they could work on 2018 but not 2016. We had many new attendees this year; many returning attendees have been part of previous committees. Where does that leave us? I need all of you to think about how you could help, or who you know in our quilting community who would be a good candidate for this position. If you want to share the responsibility, grab a friend willing to co-chair with you. If you know someone you think would do a good job, share their name and contact info with me and I will give them a call. We have some supporting players in place - someone who will do registration and maintain the database, two people to get the TAG Team (Teacher Appreciation Group) started and 2 others willing to be part of the committee. We just need to find the leader(s) who will pull it all together. The format for the weekend, guidelines and many of the documents are already created. It just needs YOU to jump in and get the ball rolling toward 2016 to keep Celebration alive! To volunteer, contact me by email. Thank you!
