Being an avid sewer all her life, Linda has taken her skills from dressmaking to creating wonderful traditional quilts using today’s faster techniques and tools. She believes there’s always something for everyone when it comes to quilting, and that quilters have a strong bond unlike anything else.

She lives in northern CA outside Redding in a country community called Palo Cedro, where she raised her 2 children and still resides with husband Dave. Linda was a quilt shop owner in Redding and now travels throughout the country teaching both on land and sea. She has a fondness for quilt shops, but loves to teach at Quilt Festival, conferences, cruises, quilt guilds and camps. She says ‘anyplace and anytime, she’s ready’!

Linda is known for her quilting retreats that she sponsors in CA, but has been known to travel around the country offering her expertise on retreats whenever she’s asked. She always say’s ‘her bags are packed, just need an invitation’!

Linda has been featured in a variety of quilting magazines with her quilts, her patterns and as ‘ad’ quilts for a specific line of fabrics. She’s also had the privilege of being on Simply Quilts for two different seasons which means plenty of reruns. Linda will tell you constantly ‘to be flexible and go with the possibilities that are presented’.

She always finishes with one simple word …. ENJOY! That’s how it should be for all of you who quilt.

I’m an artist, an author but most of all, I’m a teacher who loves to inspire my students to stretch. My greatest joy is watching students get excited, jump in fully and produce works that speak to them and others. I personally enjoy hours in the studio playing with fabric and threads but also painting and printing my own fabrics. I’m the author of Fabric Printing at Home, a book that focuses on using household materials to create print blocks, stencils and fabric resists. I’ve been a featured artist in three Quilting Arts TV series and continue to write articles for Quilting Arts magazine on hand stitching and surface design projects. I’m the proud initiator of the Textile Museum Muse Project (started in 2017), where I provide opportunities for fiber artists to study ancient textiles and objects from the Textile Museum’s (in Washington DC) collections, using them as inspiration for new fiber art works. In 2020, I moved my teaching online and had the wonderful opportunity to teach a lesson for TextileArtist.com’s Stitch Club.

Melinda Bula lives in El Dorado Hills, California and has been sewing since she was a young girl. Melinda has been in love with fabric all of her life and knew when she was 16 years old that she was going to be an artist, which became her major in college. Soon she was off to Hawaii as a flight attendant, a real job that lasted 8 years, and met her husband during this time in the San Francisco Bay Area. She worked in the interior design field for 15 years as a fabric and wallpaper designer. She and her husband, Joe, started their own wallpaper and fabric design business soon after the birth of their son, Matthew, in 1988.

The company, Melinda Bula Designs, sold their hand silk-screened wallpapers and fabrics nationwide. Melinda’s wallpaper and fabric designs have been featured on the covers of Better Homes and Gardens magazine as well as Sunset design books in addition to other noted publications.

Since moving to the Sacramento area in 1996, she has been involved in quilting and wearable arts, which has always been her first love. Her sense of color and design has won her numerous awards for both quilts and wearable arts. Her wearable arts are dynamic and modern and she loves to experiment with new techniques.

Bunnie Cleland is a long-time crafter and sewist (sewing artist) who fell in love with quilting in 2006, after her mother dragged her to a quilt show and shop hop. She was hired at a local quilt shop before she even finished her first quilting class.

Bunnie’s quilt pattern business started by accident in 2013 when she arranged some triangles into a quilting project and was then prompted to write down her directions into patterns. High demand for the patterns by quilters, retailers, and fabric companies resulted in the creation of Artistically Engineered Designs and Triangle Frenzy® patterns. She now globally distributes visually stunning quilting patterns, including table runners, table toppers, lap quilts, and bed-sized quilts.

As a former Navy Electronics Technician and Naval Nuclear Power Plant Reactor Operator, Bunnie understands the importance of precision and accuracy. She discovered she has the talent for translating complex directions into easy-to-follow instructions. This aided her in the creation of Triangle Frenzy's detailed, step-by-step illustrations, even for beginners and non-quilters.

Bunnie is also able to use her technical background and problem solving skills in teaching sewing techniques to students, guiding them through the creative process that will help them succeed at quilting, whether they're crafting a handbag or stitching a bed quilt.

On the rare occasion when Bunnie is not quilting, she enjoys photography, digital scrapbooking, trading pins, Disney Cruises, and organizing just about everything. She and her husband, Bruce, live in Chesapeake, Virginia, and have two grown children.

Joy enjoys designing applique patterns, and teaching and lecturing both in-person and via ZOOM. Groups can choose from Joy’s 100+ patterns as a starting point for a class where she will teach the techniques needed to successfully complete your handwork applique project.

Joy offers two lectures that each include a trunk show of her designs. "Making It Your Own” is a look at how we can take a pattern - anyone’s pattern - and make simple changes that will personalize it either for the maker of the recipient. It is meant to help quilters think about how they can use that pattern that they really like and “tweak it” a bit to fit in their home or to make it the perfect gift for someone they know. Sometimes by adding or subtracting just one simple element, we can make something that totally suits our needs and showcases a bit of our personality at the same time. “Stitching In Public” is a fun look at how people see our pastime as everything but what we are actually doing. During this program I share the comments and thoughts of those that have “watched” me working on my quilts and patterns and decided to share their views on how these things can be accomplished easier/better. The general public can be quite entertaining and really give you something to think about as you stitch.

Quilting is a long-standing tradition in my family. I am a fifth generation quilter and turned my hobby into a business when I bought a quilt shop in 2006. As a graphic designer, I was inspired to design quilts and fabric and formed Swirly Girls Design in 2008.

In addition to quilt patterns and books, I am a licensed designer for Michael Miller Fabrics, Dill Buttons and Creative Grids™. I sold my quilt shop i n 2011 to focus on design and teaching. Now I have the best job in the world sharing my love of color and design with quilters all over the world.

I am actively involved in the quilting industry, a member of the International Association of Creative Arts Professionals, a member of Central Virginia Modern Quilt Guild and an Aurifil Thread Specialist.

When not traveling and teaching, I live at home with my husband, Mike, in Moseley, Virginia. We have three adult children Muriah, Alyssa and Chance, plus two dogs Riley and Dioji.

I’d love to meet you! Visit my Workshops page for information on hosting me at your quilt shop or guild.

I started Longarm Finishing Touches LLC after purchasing the Gammill (Statler) and began doing quilting for customers. Most of my customers came to me for custom work and my freehand feathers. So, most of the quilts I did had more freehand on them than computerized quilting. My specialties are feathers and background filler designs. I love doing tiny feathers. My key to success – Play a Lot. I don’t feel I have a particular style to my work. I find inspiration from anywhere.

Carolyn Friedlander is an artist specializing in modern fabric designs, quilting and sewing patterns, and quilt making with intention.

Carolyn grew up on a cattle and citrus ranch in Lake Wales, Florida, where she spent most of her free time immersed in drawing, painting, and sewing. She earned a B.A. in Architecture from Washington University in St. Louis. After a stint in architecture, Carolyn sought a different occupation that would allow her to be wildly creative and work with her hands. Though she had long known how to sew, she quickly recognized quilting as a new passion and set out to learn everything she could about the craft. She was drawn to bright and bold fabrics and saw a need for clean, modern patterns. In 2010, she founded her business, Carolyn Friedlander LLC.

Today Carolyn is an active presence, partnering with industry leaders to reach quilters worldwide. Her book, Savor Each Stitch: Studio Quilting With Mindful Design, was published in 2014, and she has designed several lines of fabric with Robert Kaufman since 2012. She travels often, offering quilting workshops and exhibiting her design work at industry shows.

Quilter, Longarmer, Teacher and Artist
Julia Graves started her quilting business, Special Occasion Quilts LLC, in 2007 and teaches, lectures, designs patterns, makes commission quilts, longarms for others and sells & services APQS longarm machines. She won Best Longarm Machine Workmanship Wall Quilt Category at the 2016 Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival, is a Gem Affiliate teaching the gorgeous gem patterns by MJ Kinman - Textile Artist, has had quilts published in books by Gloria Loughman, Katie Pasquini-Masupust and MJ Kinman, was an Artist in Residence at Empty Spools in 2019, and will be teaching at Empty Spools in 2021 and 2022.

Julia has been sewing since she was ten and always loved fabric, needle arts and the entire creative process. She did her apprenticeship as a quilter by making a quilt for each of her nieces and nephews (and thinks she should have counted them before making this promise – there were 32!). She has since made more quilts than she can count, many for charity, and is partial to scrap quilts and working with color to achieve amazing results. Visit her gallery on her website. Julia lives in Leesburg Virginia.

Priscilla had always cherished the quilts made by her aunts and grandmothers, however it wasn't until 1975 until she started with her first quilt. Priscilla had been in business and frequently made clothes for herself and her daughter, she also had creative outlets with painting and music. After making her first quilt, she amazed others with the enthusiasm that she took to the craft. Initially she handstitched gorgeous traditional quilts, thinking it a sacrilege to machine quilt. Eventually her creative side erupted into experimenting with twists on the traditional in terms of pattern and color. Her keen native sense of color and design lead to what is now a number of ventures into expanding on quilting into other fiber art avenues, including mixed media. Unusual for many artists, Priscilla has a real passion for teaching. She has successfully launched hundreds of quilters and fabric artists. Established fabric artists also clamor for Priscilla's classes. Priscilla always keeps classes’ low stress, and easily adapts to the level and needs of each individual student.

Paula has been quilting since the 1980’s. In 1996 Paula moved to Virginia Beach, Va. and put all of her quilting supplies in the attic for ten years while she concentrated on her nursing career. In 2007 her son asked her to make a Double Wedding Ring quilt for him and his fiancée. It was now time to bring the supplies and her love of quilting out of the attic.
In June, 2014, Paula retired from her 47 year nursing career and is able to devote her time to Patchwork by Paula which specializes in T-Shirt and Memory Quilts. She was commissioned by the Neptune Festival to make a raffle quilt for the 2015 Neptune Festival. She is a member of the Tidewater Quilt Guild and the Virginia Consortium of Quilters. You can see examples of her work on her Facebook page Patchwork By Paula.
Her power point presentation on T-Shirt and Memory Quilts includes pictures of different styles of T-Shirt quilts, designing and construction techniques as well as a handout for attendees. Classes are also available. Please contact for fees and schedule.

Classes can be structured to serve the unique requirements of group size, setting and experience levels in all types of forums, including quilt store workshops, guild meetings, weekend retreats and seminars. Traditional patterns as well as original design work will be explored using the newest tools and techniques available. Lectures are usually one hour long and can be delivered to any size group. I try to make my lectures as visually stimulating as possible by bringing quilts to share with the group.

In spite of vowing, she would never move back to her hometown when she left for college, Mary returned to Willoughby, Ohio and is still there! What began as a grade school interest in sewing progressed into a degree in clothing and retailing from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio. Upon graduation, Mary worked for the Ohio Cooperative Extension Service until she “retired” to raise three children with her husband, Doug. During that time, Mary became hooked on quilt making and was soon teaching others. Teaching led to a hunger for better supplies and in 1979, the opening of her store, Erie Street Quilts in Willoughby. During the next decade, Mary attended seminars given by Mary Ellen Hopkins, author of It’s Okay to Sit on My Quilt. The skills and techniques she learned from Mary Ellen continue to influence her work style and teaching approach. In the 1990’s Mary expanded her designing work through her consulting work with King Road Imports of California. This has led to designing annual mystery quilt projects for her shop and the Northern Ohio Quilt Shop Hop. In 2005, after 26 years, Mary closed her Erie Street Quilts shop and focused on teaching and expanding her pattern line. At the same time, Mary began to work with Marti Michell of Atlanta and is a certified educator for Marti’s extensive line of rotary cutting templates and tools. Mary’s classes and workshops are designed to stretch students at all levels and to challenge them to step up to new degrees of satisfaction in their skills.

Marguerita specializes in quilt-as-you-go, traveling the USA in her RV throughout winter. Her most popular lecture is "Quilt As You Go: A Progression of Techniques" during which she shows her published quilts from 5 books and shares the story of her progression from crazy quilts, to UFO's, to T-shirt quilts, an adaptation for modern looking quilts, and finishing with Layer Cake quilts, all done with quilt-as-you-go.

Her most popular workshop is a 2 day Layer Cake Quilt that is quilted using the decorative stitches of the sewing machine, for a gorgeous, elegant, fast, quilt-as-you-go quilt. She finishes off with her techniques for an all-machine binding and her signature "pretty corners".

Marguerita also lectures for professional craft organizations on successful self-publishing and video marketing.

Amish Center Diamond - 3 and 6 hour class
This workshop will be a color study to develop your own Amish Center Diamond palette for a quilt top. You will do a miniature fabric mock-up. Discussion will include quilting designs, making them to fill and fit the space, and how to mark the quilt top. In the 6-hour class you will begin to cut and sew your designed top. Machines necessary for the 6-hour class. All levels.
Drafting Fundamentals - 3 hour class
Drafting Fundamentals will be geared to show how easy it is to subdivide any size block to make the standard designs, i.e., 4-patch, 5-patch, 7-patch, 9-patch, etc. You will learn how to draft an 8-pointed star master grid from any size square, then transfer that information to draft any 8-pointed star based pattern, and you will also
learn how to draft a mariners compass master grid. Beginner and intermediate levels.
Quilting Design & Stencil Making - 3 hour class
Now that the quilt top is pieced, how and where do I quilt it? If you are confused about what and where to quilt and how much to quilt, this is the class for you. Bring in your quilt tops and let's have an old-fashion discussion session. We will explore quilting planning strategies, learn how to make a stencil to fit the space, and how to
make a feathered border and corner to fit. Note taking and demo class only. All levels.
Quilting Design & Stencil Making - 6 hour class
We will do everything in the above described class, but hands-on. We will also explore quilting ideas for your particular tops. All levels.
Spoon Quilting - 3 hour class
This class is for the beginner or anyone wishing to perfect his or her quilting skills; includes information on marking, batting, basting, frames, and tips on achieving small, even stitches. We will discuss quilting basics such as needles, thread, and thimbles. Instructor uses the T. J. Quick Quilter quilting spoon. All levels.

Meghan Shafer began her sewing journey making costumes. After monopolizing her Mom’s sewing machine, her parents gave her one for Christmas along with a jelly roll and a quilt book. Her Mom taught her the ropes of quilting, and the rest is history! In just a few years, Meghan began designing patterns for her own use, and she has recently started sharing these patterns to a larger audience. Meghan is particularly drawn to high contrast and vivid colors in her work, and Tula Pink is one of her favorite designers. She is active in her local guild; and has had multiple quilts hung in her local quilt shops. She has two mystery quilts on going with Fairfax Quilters Unlimited. She designed two original art quilts which are featured in two books, Inspired by Elvis and Inspired by the Nation’s Capital; these quilts have toured the nation for several years.

My "Sirota No More Tears Paper Piecing”© method is easier to understand and takes half the time of the old way of paper piecing. Since my goal was to take the anxiety out of paper piecing and replace it with the joy of the results, I’m happy to say that paper piecing is now accurate, fun, easier and much quicker.

Aside from being part of the Mancuso Show Management (Quiltfest) faculty, and teaching nationally and internationally, I’ve been a featured guest on The Quilt Show with Alex Anderson and Ricky Tims. Also, several of the quilts created by students in workshops have gone on to win top prizes in competitions. Maybe yours will be next.

Her quilting style has evolved over the years from patterns and traditional quilting to modern Improv with a scrappy focus. She loves to incorporate technology into her quilting and as many fabrics as possible.

She now lectures on Zoom and in person on various facets of quilting, leads the Modern Quilt Group for TQG, and she teaches scrap quilting and Quilt As You Go techniques in person and on Zoom.

– Pat Speth began quilting in 1988 when she purchased a wool quilt batting from her Grandmother's auction. "I checked out a stack of quilt books from the library and fell in love with the patterns and designs, I knew I could not stop with just one quilt." Pat started working with 5 inch squares as a basis for her quiltmaking in 1993 after attending her first retreat. She was asked to do a program for her guild in 1997 using the 5" squares, which gave her the push to explore new uses and techniques for working with the squares. Pat, while working a full time job, started on the book, Nickel Quilts in 1998 and was able to have it ready for the publishers in June 2001. She loves teaching the methods for working with the 5" squares, and sharing her quilts with others. After juggling her full time job and her quilting for many years, Pat moved into a full time quilting career in July 2003. "I have found my passion in life, and I can't imagine doing anything else."

Evelyn has been a quilter for over thirty years. For the past fifteen years, she has designed her own quilts after she purchased the Electric Quilt software. Her quilts have been shown nationally in AQS shows in Paducah Kentucky, Des Moines Iowa, and Lancaster Pennsylvania, and in the International Quilt Festival in Houston as well as locally in the Richmond Quilters Guild shows and the Virginia State Fair. Evelyn loves to embellish her quilts with painting, embroidery, crystals and specialty fibers. She designs all her quilts using Electric Quilt and has been teaching EQ to local guilds for the past few years. She is experienced in using a longarm and in free motion quilting and frequently becomes involved in dyeing and marbling her own fabrics as well as using computer printing to embellish her fabrics. Originally from Maine and a banker by profession, she now lives in Lakewood Ranch, Florida. She is available for teaching Electric Quilt classes, from beginning to advanced levels. She can be contacted by phone or email.

Quilt artist and instructor
Amy teaches techniques that don't require precision, including crooked log cabin, crazy quilting, fusible applique, curvaceous piecing, and creative finishing and embellishing methods.
Her goal is to help all you “precision-impaired” quilters to find the techniques that you enjoy, so you can spend your quilting time frolicking in the fabric instead of stressing out.
Amy is available to teach at your quilt guild. (Amy does not teach on Sundays.)

Kevin Womack is a textile artist living in Lynchburg, Virginia. In 1986, he was introduced to quilting by his maternal grandmother. Having always loved the legacy of family quilts, he decided to have her teach him the tradition. He was hooked from the first stitch and continues producing quilts and quilt art today. Kevin is passionate about hand dyeing and patterning fabrics with surface design techniques. His experiments produce a line of unique fabrics and clothing that he exhibits and sells. He recently taped an episode (Show #2703) for The Quilt Show with Ricky Tims and Alex Anderson which aired in August of 2020. Kevin teaches and lectures nationally.
